About the event

Sustainable Laboratory Design and Construction based on Holistic Life Cycle Approach

Labs are heavy consumers of energy, water and generate excessive waste. They can consume 5 to 10 times more energy than office buildings and ventilation (HVAC) design can play a critical role in improving energy performance. This presentation will provide a holistic view of high performance decarbonization strategies for laboratory infrastructure based on a life cycle approach. The presentation will provide some highlights from Laboratories Canada’s Lab Design Guideline (RLDF), I2SL’s Labs2Zero as well as some high-performance A&E strategies.

Presentation Overview:

  1. Introduction to Laboratories Canada’s Design Principles and Holistic Approach to Sustainability

  2. Understand how science laboratories differ from other types of infrastructure in terms of sustainable design and operations ”.

  3. Holistic A&E Design for sustainable laboratory Infrastructure
